Student life at Edgewood offers many choices. Athletics plays an important role in providing the student with extra-curricular activities. The football and cheerleader programs start at the Termites and go through varsity. There are varsity and junior varsity dance teams that perform at football and basketball games. There are junior varsity and varsity boys and girls basketball teams and varsity and junior varsity baseball and softball teams. There is also a dance, volleyball, and track team.
Edgewood teams compete in the AISA state play-offs and have had a state basketball championship, four back-to-back championships in softball, and three championships in baseball in recent years. The varsity football team is consistently in contention for the state championship. Participation in a quality sports program provides students with a well-rounded school life and offers lessons that cannot be learned in a classroom. Edgewood was awarded the Chairman's Award by the AISA for its overall excellence in athletics.
Edgewood also encourages academic competition through the state level in AISA science fairs, spelling bees, math team contests, accounting team contests, and community speech and essay contests. The Scholar's Bowl team placed first and the Accounting team came in third in state competition. Edgewood also received the AISA President's Award for its committment to academics. The 2008 senior class had over $1.5 million in scholarships.
Extra-curricular activities also include clubs such as the Spanish Club, the Drama Club, the Beta Club, the Student Government Association, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and First Priority. Clubs volunteer in community projects, put on school programs and make special field trips. Students need these outlets to reach out to other areas in the school and in the community.
