Edgewood has been accredited with Alabama Independent School Association since 1974 and is also accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), the National Council for Private School Accreditation (NCPSA) and the Commission on International and Trans-Regional Accreditation Alliance (CITA).

Enrollment:

Edgewood is a college preparatory school for students in kindergarten through twelfth grade.

Total enrollment = 254, Elementary = 121, Secondary = 133

 

Admission:

Admission to Edgewood is selective and competitive. Admission test, prior academic and discipline records, standardized test scores, and family interviews are required for admission consideration. Edgewood Academy enrolls qualified students without regard to race, sex, religion, or ethnicity.

 

Faculty and Staff:

  • Total = 25 faculty members (including administration).
  • 100% elementary faculty holds current certification.
  • 100% secondary faculty teaching in endorsed area/college major.
  • 60% of the faculty have advanced degrees.
  • 1 teacher is National Board Certified.

Testing:

All students in grades 1-8 are given the Stanford 10 Achievement Test (SAT10) each spring. Students in grades 2, 4, 6,&8 also take the Otis Lennon School ability test. The Star Reading Test is administered four times yearly in grades 1 – 6. Students in grades 10 -11 complete the PSAT and PLAN which are predictors for the ACT and SAT.

Fine Arts:

Fine Arts consist of Art, Music, and Drama. Two elementary productions are held each year with the high school holding one major production each year.

 

College Fairs/Visits:

Edgewood participates in the Annual Elmore County College Fair where approximately 45 colleges are represented. In addition, numerous college representatives visit Edgewood each year to meet with juniors and seniors.

 

 

Athletics

Secondary:

Edgewood competes as a 2A school in the Alabama Independent School Association (AISA). The secondary athletic program is comprised of 16 separate teams in 7 different sports (football, volleyball, basketball, cheerleading, baseball, softball, and Track). Since 2000, Edgewood athletic teams have won 17 junior varsity or varsity state championships in 5 different sports. The 2008 football team won the National Private School Athletic Association National Championship. Teams have also won numerous area, region, and tournament championships. Edgewood student athletics have earned athletic scholarships in softball, baseball, basketball, and football. The 2009 JV and varsity cheer squads won the AISA cheer camp top team awards.

 

 

 

 

 

Elementary:

Edgewood elementary offers students the opportunity to participate in football and cheerleading in grades 2 – 6.

 

 

Elementary Enrichment

Elementary students participate weekly in art/music, computer, library, and Spanish. Students also participate in physical education daily. Numerous educational field trips are taken yearly to such places as Lanark, Camp Chandler, Old Alabama Town, Wetumpka Depot, American Village, and others. Fifth grade students attend a three-day overnight science camp annually.

 

Before school care is offered to grades K-5 at no charge from 7:00 – 7:30 am daily. After school care is available from 3:15 – 5:45 pm daily.

The Valedictorian / Salutatorian is determined by grade point average. In the event of a tie, ACT scores are used. Beginning with the class of 2012, Valedictorian and Salutatorian will be determined by numerical average. In addition, the Valedictorian / Salutatorian must have attended Edgewood since the 10th grade and enrolled in advanced classes.
